If you search for a truck and chipper for sale, the first photo can fool you. A chip truck has a body for the chips. A tow-behind chipper turns brush into chips. One may be doing its job in the background of the other’s listing. Before you spend a day driving to the yard, get a written price for the truck, the chipper, or both together.

Does “chipper truck” include a wood chipper?

A truck advertised by body type may have a chip box and dump hoist without any cutting machine. A chipper may be sold separately even when it is shown hitched to the truck. Some commercial truck listings use “chip truck” and “chipper truck” for the same body style. Ask for the chassis VIN, body make and dimensions, chipper model and serial, and what each line on the invoice covers. A package price should identify all included units.

If you already own a truck and want only a pull-behind machine, start with a used tree chipper comparison. If you need a bucket for aerial access, get the lift model and inspection records as well. A chip box and an aerial lift solve different problems.

One seller package versus two lines on an invoice

The Registry lists a 2001 International DT4700 forestry package in Massachusetts at $29,900. Its description includes a 12-inch Bandit disc machine and other tools. The truck’s mileage field shows zero. Treat that as an unknown and require odometer evidence. Ask the seller whether the chipper and all tools are still included at this price.

Weber Davis Tree Service in Utah lists a 2006 Mitsubishi Fuso chip truck at $16,000 and a Bandit 250 XP at $30,000. The seller describes using the Fuso to tow the Bandit. The two asks add to $46,000 before fees, transport, or repairs. The owner does not quote that sum as a discounted package. Get current terms and availability directly.

A faster chipper may only speed up the first load

Check the last few jobs that took more than one chip load. From the time a truck left the crew to when it returned ready to work, how many minutes disappeared? Include travel, the disposal line, unloading, and the return trip. Then ask if a larger chip body actually lets you avoid that trip with your typical material. Box volume is a space figure, not a legal payload. Confirm the finished truck’s ratings and actual loaded weight with qualified truck professionals.

Have a truck mechanic review the dump hoist, body floor, frame, towing hardware and service records. Have a qualified chipper technician evaluate the cutting system separately. Ask what a repair on either unit would do to the crew calendar. If the truck breaks down, you may lose the tow rig and chip disposal at the same time.

Run the numbers on reduced dump trips

Suppose your route avoids eight trips in a month, each taking 60 minutes, at a loaded crew cost of $75 per hour. That saves $600 of crew time before any change in fuel, dump fees, or fixed ownership costs. Time saved pays a bill only if it reduces actual cost or becomes billable work. Keep fixed truck and chipper costs together and avoid counting the same hour twice.

Request financing with both assets identified

Give us the links, seller type, separate identifiers and prices, business state, delivery costs, and timeline. If one unit is already yours, identify which one you need financed. If the seller will quote only a lump sum, request an asset breakdown before submitting the purchase for review. The brokerage can review the structure and potential options; each lender determines eligibility and terms.
