Commercial Lawn Aerators for Sale: Price the Machine Against Your Aeration Route

Compare commercial lawn aerators for sale, two stand-on asking prices, core width, tine wear and the number of booked jobs your season needs.

Reviewed: 2026-11-03 · Published 2026-11-05

Before you shop for an aerator, count the customers who have actually agreed to buy aeration this season. Then list the size of those lawns, the tightest access point and the time you have to finish the route. A machine that looks productive on an open sports field may spend more of a residential day on the trailer than pulling cores.

Pick the type of aerator your customers are paying for

A core or plug aerator removes plugs of soil. If your estimate promises core aeration, confirm the tine setup on the machine you buy. Ask for a demonstration on comparable turf, weather permitting, and check what comes out of the ground. A listing that simply says “aerator” may instead be a tow-behind implement, a walk-behind unit or a machine built for sports turf.

Toro lists a 30-inch working width for its model 29521 stand-on aerator and says it can pull cores up to five inches under suitable conditions. Working width describes the treated strip, not how much room the whole machine needs. Ideal Rent-All lists 48 inches overall for the 30-inch stand-on unit in its advertisement. Get dimensions for the actual unit, gate, trailer opening and approach before driving to see it.

Two asking prices for a commercial lawn crew

D.H. Smith & Sons listed a 2016 Exmark 30-inch stand-on aerator at a sale price of $7,800 in Marshfield, Massachusetts. Ideal Rent-All advertised a 2025 Toro 30-inch stand-on aerator with 41 hours for $10,500 in Mount Vernon, Washington. That is a $2,700 difference before freight. These are separate models of different ages. Ask what condition, hours and service history each seller can document.

Get an itemized replacement quote for the tine set and any immediate service. Ask whether the seller can show tine engagement, lifts and drive operation in a demonstration. Check individual tine condition, the service record and locally available parts with the exact model and serial number. On a short selling season, a part that takes a week to arrive can matter more than a small difference in asking price.

Put a seasonal target on the purchase

Suppose you allocate $2,400 in ownership cost to the aeration season and a booked job leaves $80 after crew time, fuel, transport and other variable expenses. You need 30 jobs to cover that allocation. Use the contribution from aeration only. If you sell overseeding on the same visit, count its contribution separately and only if those sales are in the forecast.

Look at how the jobs fit into the calendar. Thirty customers spread over a tight service radius may be a reasonable route. Thirty potential calls scattered across several counties may never become thirty paying jobs. Compare renting the right-sized aerator for your busiest scheduled days, especially if you are still selling this service to your first customers.

Get the actual turf equipment quote reviewed

Send the machine year, model, serial number, seller type and itemized price if you want us to review commercial equipment financing options. Include any trailer, attachment or other equipment on the transaction as separate items. A documented seller and a machine that fits the route make it easier to discuss the right request. Availability, financing eligibility and final terms depend on the unit and lender review.
